In our family’s five generations of growing wine in the Livermore Valley, countless stories and legends have been passed down, including the infamous lore surrounding Joaquin Murrieta, the ‘Robin Hood of the West.’

Joaquin Murrieta
According to popular tales, Joaquin Murrieta was born in Sonora, Mexico, in the 1820s. His life took a dramatic turn when he and his family faced violence and tragedy at the hands of miners and bandits during the turbulent Gold Rush period. In response to the injustices he witnessed and experienced, Joaquin allegedly turned to a life of rebellion.
As the story goes, Murrieta and his brother began to seek revenge against those who had wronged them. Joaquin Murrieta, often portrayed as an expert horseman and skilled with a blade, became a symbol of resistance against the oppression faced by immigrants and Californios during that time.

Jordan Wente
A 5th-generation winegrower in the Wente family, Jordan has spent her life steeped in the stories and soils of Livermore Valley.
Inspired by her father’s passion project—Murrieta’s Well—and the tales he shared with her and her sisters about its namesake, Jordan felt a calling. She imagined a new kind of wine—rooted in place, rich with heritage, and alive with the mystery of how a story becomes a legend.
Roaming Legend was born out of that dream.

The Livermore Valley
The Livermore Valley has a unique east to west orientation. The warm days are tempered by the marine influence of the San Francisco Bay, providing cool, foggy mornings and lower evening temperatures. This climatic variation allows the fruit to develop and ripen while maintaining its natural acidity. As one of California’s oldest wine regions, the Livermore Valley has played a pivotal role in shaping California’s wine industry. Since the 1880’s, Murrieta’s Well has been one of the cornerstone wine estates in the valley. This estate serves as the inspiration for Roaming Legend wines.
Inspired by the rebellious legacy of Joaquin Murrieta, each bottle of Roaming Legend wine is a journey through California and Livermore history.
